Industrial Landscape Architecture is a real specialized
form of practice in the United States.
Better known in Europe and Canada, this type of practice
involves visual assessment of industrial sites and the design and construction
of industrial green belts. Using a sophisticated visual preference survey,
which was developed in cooperation with the Dow Chemical Company, the
firm has the capability to assess the visual structure of any industrial
operation. Once visual preference and structure is determined, the firm
sets forth visual solutions that involves the planning, design and construction
of industrial greenbelts.
Greenbelts are primarily used for visual screening but
other values accrue to industrial owners as well. They include providing
safety zones, wildlife habitat and places to retain on site storm water.
A well design green belt can filter the air, add oxygen and dispose of
carbon dioxide. Vegetation can be used to rebuild soil that has been damaged
by industrial activities.
The firm has provided this service to several industrial
companies.
