Habitat Protection Area
Technical Standards for Habitat Protection Areas
1..Determine the extent of the existing habitat area to be preserved by analyzing topography soil, moisture levels and plant material species. Pay special attention to large existing trees, their critical root zone areas and ground cover conditions.
2.. Determine the shape, size and total area of the habitat was well as all points of inflow and outflow.
3.. Calculate holding capacity as well as the size of any contributing drainage area. Contributing drainage area shall be limited to no more than two (200) percent the size of the preserved habitat to limit through flow.
4. Determine outflow rate and the route of the storm water flow by inspection and or testing.
5.Determine if additional infill planting is needed to increase surface roughness if needed and plant with species that meet the ecological characterization of the preserved habitat.
6. Limit impact to the preserved area by barricading with fencing during construction activities.
7. A site clearing plan stamped by a landscape architect must be submitted for this comprehensively designed storm water facility
Preserved habitats are also discussed under the section of this document describing Design Components
