Vegetation, its planting, protection, and preservation is a necessary part of any landscape code. Vegetation is required within specific site areas and these area often referred to as landscape design components. LDC's are included within each landscape code for specialized services such as beautification, screening, buffering, air filtering, shading, storm water storage, erosion control, land division, or urban wildlife habitat protection.

Landscape design components show the importance of trees, shrubs, ground covers and turf grass and how they are element in on-site storm water management. Together, a designed landscape can add beauty, preserve habitat, soak up storm water, filter out non-point pollutants, and provide important eco-services that protect the health, safety, welfare, and economic interest of citizens and businesses.
